5 Unexpected Reasons Why Dogs Don’t Like Certain People by Amber King

Amber King has written a great post on 5 Unexpected Reasons Why Dogs Don’t Like Certain People. To jump right to the article –> Click Here

In summary, the 5 unexpected reasons she talks about are:

  1. Tone of Voice
  2. Body Language
  3. How Someone Interacts with Other People
  4. Smell
  5. Past Trauma

Her initial statements of the article go as follows:

Getting on a dog’s good side might seem as easy as having a pocket full of treats and knowing the trick to a good belly rub, but our four-legged friends aren’t always easy to please. They’re quick to judge a person’s character, and there are some people they simply don’t like.

It could be a specific person in the dog’s family, a friend of their owner’s, or a random person they meet on the street—but dogs know a foe when they see one. They might growl if the person comes close or simply turn tail and disappear. It seems random, but it isn’t as mysterious as you think.

What are we up to now?

Hello everyone! We are going to do our best on giving weekly updates about what is going on in our world as we build our community.

Off of the checklist:

  • Order hats –> started with 12 hats and ALL of them are already reserved or taken! Putting in another order in the next 2 weeks! If people are interested, we are offering hats at $35 and all proceeds go directly to the Pawsitive Kidnections account!
  • Order shirts –> 26 shirts have been ordered; this will be open for public purchase as soon as I can figure out how to add the shop button on here. They will be $25 a piece and like the hats, all proceeds go directly to the Pawsitive Kidnections account!

  • This is big! We had to reschedule our first Volunteer day due to not enough time to organize. On June 24th, at least 10 children from CASA of the Pikes Peak Region are going to be volunteering at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region making papier mache enrichment for the animals! In under a week, we have 7 kids registered!

Social Media and Webpage:

  • This is something we are constantly working on. I am going to be putting out a couple of opportunities for people to help contribute to the webpage and social media so that we can grow our community! If anyone has friends at either UCCS, Colorado College or Pikes Peak CC that are in communication or media that want an opportunity to help, pleased comment below and we will get connected

  • As of today, I put it out into the airwaves that we wanted to do some sort of collaboration with iHeartDogs.com. Along with that, I have also been in contact with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) as we have a few connections with them and are in hopes to learn more about the non-profit world from someone local. I am waiting to hear back from the Pikes Peak Community Foundation and also the Center for Non Profit Excellence.
  • I am awaiting calls from Colorado Correctional Institute to finalize our partnership when we can set all of the terms which will hopefully lead to another connection with Freedom Service Dogs to work on all of the training that the dogs will undergo before meeting their new person.
  • I am also researching a potential celebrity face for this movement. Zac Efron and Sarah McLachlan are on my list right now of needing further research before reaching out.

We hope you enjoyed our first organic blog post! Please leave comments below if you are interest in hats, shirts, volunteering, or sharing! We look forward to connecting with you!

The bond between dogs and humans (from LearningFromDogs.com)

What conversations do you have with your canine companion? Do you ask them how their day went? Or ask if they want to hear about what happened at work or school today?

What if they asked us these sorts of questions? Completely curious about what’s going on for all of those moments that we aren’t right there with them. Do you ever wonder what they do all day when you are away?

LearningFromDogs.com has a great inquiry about the bond between dogs and humans. Check the link! We would love to hear what you think about this.
